Martin O'Neill resigned from his position just five days from the new season following disagreements over the club’s transfer policy. Media reports suggest that the club is willing to listen to offers for Ashley Young while O’Neill was not promised to be handed over the full transfer fee should James Milner agree to a move to Manchester City.

With just four days remaining before the opening game of the season, reserve team manager Kevin MacDonald is expected to take control of the club for the game against West Ham. Martin Jol has been reported to be the frontrunner to the job at Villa while former USA coach Bob Bradley has also been linked with the job.

West Ham manager Avram Grant will be hopeful of taking full advantage of the turmoil at Upton Park by securing a vital victory this weekend. The Hammers narrowly avoided relegation last season and Grant will be optimistic of a far better season this time around.
