A disappointing World Cup campaign saw yet another change at the helm for Brazil and though there were calls to reappoint Luiz Felipe Scolari, it was the 48-year old Menezes who was appointed as the new coach after first choice Muricy Ramalho was unable to break his contract with Fluminense.
Menezes has been forced to rest some of his World Cup stars with Maicon, Lucio and Luis Fabiano not in the squad while Ronaldinho and Adriano continue to be ignored for the national team. Manchester United’s Rafael, David Luiz and AC Milan’s Alexandre Pato have been included in the squad along with Santos’ Neymar.
Meanwhile USA coach Bob Bradley has faced a couple of pullouts with Schalke’s Jermaine Jones deciding to stick with his pre-season training and recover from his injury before the start of the new season instead of going all the way back to the country to play in the friendly.
Jones was in line to make his debut for USA but will be sticking with his club while Columbus Crew defender Chad Marshall has also pulled out. The withdrawals have led to the recall of Jozy Altidore to the squad along with LA Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez.
